Blondie's

Blondie's was a no-brainer lunch stop in Springdale, Utah- just outside of Zion National Park.  We hadn't eaten all day, because, as I expressed before: Nevada is just no place for eatin'.  It was hot as Hades and we'd been driving since the wee hours in order to get in a couple hikes before we had to move out of Zion.  Springdale, the gateway town to the park, had an oddness about it- like the whole place got together and decided what their tourist-attraction aesthetic would be along the highway, but it was charming.  We popped into Blondie's and it was no exception.  A sort of faux-authenticity where at first you think you're in someone's family farmhouse- and you are- but then you realize all the decorations are for sale.  They give you the scoop on the front of the menu; I think I only read half of it because I was super busy with my ice tea.
Then they present this odd Landlocked Westerner Cuisine which I am right now defining as things like Taco Salad, chicken strips and omelets.  I guess it's like stuff our generation imagines our mom as making for dinner because she learned how to cook from the television.
I went wild with an Elk Burger, because I am the kind of person who, when she orders an elk burger in Utah, feels like she participated in the hunting of an elk, which surely took place just yonder in the foothills of the majestic mountains.  I believe we discerned that the elk came from a farm about 50 miles away, same as the buffalo.  This same train of thought led us to CrabTown in Oklahoma City a few days later- you'll learn about that later.  The elk burger was fine, as was G's regular burger, but we were dented for our "strenuous" hike in the midday heat.
