Restaurante El Fondeadero

Nestled into the lower hills of Volcano San Pedro, this restaurant wasn't overwhelmingly special, but its menu exemplifies the type of tourist-centric restaurant that abounds in the pueblos around Lake Atitlan in the western highlands of Guatemala.
The photo on the front isn't the view from the restaurant terrace, rather, it is the view one would have of the volcano as she approaches San Pedro from Panajachel via lancha (little blue speedboat from the 70s).

Typical Guatemalan diner dishes like "pollo al vino" (a superflat chicken strip bathing in a pool of wine) sit alongside American faves like "coctel de frutas." I believe I ordered "yogurt con miel" (honey) in an effort to stave off the oil-saturated entrees that plagued me throughout my visit to the fair country. The "liquados"- fruit blended with water or yogurt, abundant in Guatemala- were excellent, served in a ginormous glass goblet. But the highlights of the menu, a trifold laminated number, are the colored clipart illustrations.
