This dark and cozy old-timey space on Henry Street wins because of its really good pub menu. The cocktail list is thoroughly entertaining; with names like "Two-Cents Fancy" and ingredients like creme de violette and house bark & root syrup, they're almost more thrilling to read than to drink. Which is why I got this menu to share. If you are fortunate enough to carouse with the Brooklyners, your aperitif will certainly be shaken by a surly gent in suspenders.
I can't get over them calling it a Hamburger Sandwich. I think the vernacular- and the font and design of the menu- is a fine touch. I only had the fries and a Brooklyn Ferry, but I'll be back for Marrow Bones (which I always want to order when they're on a menu) and perhaps the Wilkinsons: globular dutch pancakes with caramel sauce. Kinda pricey, but Gatsby era ambience doesn't come cheap.
