On this festive day, when boiled meats are the norm and artificially modified beers abound, it's fun to harken back to an historic St. Patrick's Day when French was the language of gastronomy and there were vegetables served with your pub fare. This menu, courtesy my friend Rebecca at Cooked Books is from Delmonico's in 1864, and included a page of toasts to the following:

1. St. Patrick's Day (and all who honour it)
2. The United States
3. Ireland
4. The City of New York
5. Woman
6. Army and Navy
7. Our Sister Societies
I back it.
Brilliant holiday post Jilly. I feel so honored to have shared so many menus together. Meals too.
