Wapping Food

The Wapping Project is just what you'd hope to find down a curving cobblestone street in a dark corner of London. It's a huge industrial space turned restaurant slash exhibition hall, and still maintains touches of the hydraulic power plant it used to be, without being too bobo about it. I'm talking concrete floors and unfinished brick walls with old machinery laying around, at least in the exhibition space, that at the time of our visit was showcasing a layout artist for London Design Week. But I digress- the food.

The restaurant itself was actually pretty showy, with black-teed Dutch waiters and ornate 10 pound cocktails. The simple white paper menu suggested that the specialties change nightly, and we were pleased with the selection. As usual, the pleasure of reading the menu almost exceeded that of eating the food; we were dumfounded as to which items to choose. As a group of 3, we went with a charcuterie, the char grilled squid, and roast plaice to share. It was a small order, but we three are foragers and were pleasantly satisfied. Except looking back, I think we ordered a grilled sweet corn that never came. Sad face.
